2017 – 2018 School Year Offerings. From the New from HES Series.

2017 – 2018 School Year Offerings

Hephaestus Education Studio (HES) loves to integrate what you are teaching your students in the classroom into maker workshops. Think you can’t combine history, forces of motion, math, and literature into one workshop? Think again! In fact, send us your challenges to our twitter handle, @HephEduStudio, using the hashtag #challengeme!

Beginning this Fall 2017 season, HES provides maker classes in design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and programming workshops to pK-8th grades. HES can also work with teachers to provide a combination of focuses in alignment with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and 21st Century Skills. We can even work with your school to provide teacher workshops and maker education and/or STEAM curriculum consulting. Tell you more? But of course, read on to hear of examples from each category.

In a design workshop, students could design and prototype an object related to the subject(s) they are currently learning through a 5-step design process teaching them empathy, listening skills, creative thinking, and problem solving along the way. In a mechanical engineering workshop, students can learn and create objects based on simple machines and physics such as automatas, pinball machines, and mini-roller coasters. In an electrical engineering workshop, students can learn about and tinker with circuitry, add on to their mechanical engineering projects with lights, sensors, and sound, or create something entirely new. With a programming workshop, young students can learn the basics of programming through block-based code or older students can learn how to code in Python and even take their electrical engineering project even further by programming circuits with Arduino. Want a workshop with a combination of the projects explained above or have a different goal in mind? Not a problem, just ask.

Are you overwhelmed with the content you need to teach your students this year? Are your students struggling to understand or retain what you are teaching? Why not ask us to help you create a specialized workshop to combine the goals you need to accomplish? We can even create maker workshops like the ones described above to combine your NGSS, CCSS, and 21st Century Skills requirements. Are you in need of a professional development workshop to help your teachers integrate maker ed into their own lessons? We can provide a teacher workshop mentoring your teachers on how to integrate these concepts themselves starting with small steps. Or, are you a new school in need of creating a STEAM curriculum but don’t know where to start? We can help you with that too!
